Donut Day 2K18
From European festival food to blue-collar American breakfast, our nation's favorite sweetened fried dough has taken on many forms throughout its history. Each one, whether it's a sticky jelly-filled donut, an airy chocolate glazed or the 5-dollar hipster artisan donut, we can all agree that these confections are thoroughly, compulsively, and delectably delicious.
Below are my go-to donut shops in my neck of the woods:
- The Goods - Greetings from enthusiastic and friendly donut makers is a constant in this gorgeous place. Mouth-watering donuts are presented with care, each one bursting with unique flavor with just the right amount of sweetness, buttery and melty texture. They serve Stumptown coffee with flavor notes intentionally chosen to compliment the donuts perfectly. Make sure to try the Samoas, Nutella, and Strawberry Cheesecake.
- The Donut Bar - How could I pass on San Diego's award-winning donut shop? Flavors include caramelized pineapple, creme brulee, Cookie Monster donut, maple bacon, and a Homer Simpson donut to name a few. They also serve a grilled cheese donut. And it sounds better than you think.
- Nomad Donuts - Executive Pastry Chef Kristianna Zabala handcrafts every global-inspired donut using small batch ingredients from farmers markets, best conscious ingredients you can find, and is home to the best vegan donuts EVA. They also have a new and bigger dope spot in North Park for locals to mingle.
To celebrate Donut Day 2K18, I paid a visit to The Goods for some 5-dollar donuts. Five-dollar donuts deserve a good outfit so I opted for this adorable summery, polka-dotted dress and expensive lookin' mules from Target. I also bought four pairs of Target sandals when they were all 30% off during Memorial Day weekend because ya' girl makes it rain. Target and donut shops, particulary.
